VOLUNTEER
UMFS serves approximately 7,500 children and families each year. Doing so not only requires the skill and expertise of our staff but also the willing hands and hearts of volunteers across the state. Have you ever thought about becoming a volunteer at UMFS? There are opportunities for every interest and every schedule! In order to learn more about how to volunteer with UMFS, the first step is to create a VOLUNTEER PROFILE. Once you have created a profile, you will receive more detailed information by email from our Volunteer Coordinator, Angie Williams. If you already have a volunteer profile and are interested in registering for a volunteer opportunity, please click here. If you experience any difficulty in trying to create your profile, please contact Angie (804-239-1039).
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
UMFS Auxillary
The UMFS Auxillary is always in need of volunteers. This group is made up of women from Metro Richmond Methodist churches. It meets every third Thursday of the month and provides the extra support to both our intensive treatment center and treatment foster care youth. To volunteer for the UMFS Auxillary contact Bonnie Hadden at (804)741-9316.
Support Groups
The five regional centers across the state host support groups for their resource parents. They are in need of volunteers who can assist staff with three groups of children whose parents are attending adoption and foster parent support groups.
Provide a Meal
During the resource parent support groups, a meal is provided to the children. The regional centers are always in need of volunteers who can provide a “kid friendly” meal to feed 30.
Charterhouse School Classroom Partners
Volunteers are needed to serve as classroom partners for Charterhouse School in Richmond. Classroom partners typically provide treats for students by visiting the classroom once a month.
Charterhouse School Tutors
Charterhouse School students are in need of tutors. This is a once-a-week commitment during lunch (11:40-12:20) when tutors come in to work with a small group of students (2-3) in the areas of math and/or reading/English.
Special Events
UMFS hosts a variety of events throughout the year. Check your Volunteer Profile regularly to learn about upcoming events and to register for events that are of interest to you!
