Greg Peters
President/Chief Executive Officer
Greg Peters has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since January 1, 2000. During 25 years of service at UMFS his other positions included Treatment Foster Care Coordinator, Tidewater Regional Center Director, Associate Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. Greg is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker
with 29 years of experience working with high-risk children and families.
He received a bachelor’s degree from Bridgewater College and a master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Greg has continued learning through courses at the University of North Carolina, Harvard University, and the College of William and Mary. He is a 2000 graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond.
As a child advocate and community leader, he has served as President of two of the major child care associations in Virginia. Greg was appointed by Governor Warner to serve on the State Executive Council for the Comprehensive Services Act for At Risk Youth. He is active on a local, state and national level in developing and implementing creative partnerships to address gaps in the human service system.
Jay Ziehl
Executive Vice President
Jay Ziehl has served as Chief Operating Officer, and most recently as Executive VP/COO of UMFS, since February 2000. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and holds a master's degree in public administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to coming to UMFS, Jay worked in the public and for-profit sectors developing and supervising juvenile justice and at-risk youth programs. In all, he has more than 34 years of experience in the field
Matt Lisagor
Vice President, Finance
Matt Lisagor received his bachelor's degree in business administration, emphasis in accounting, from Old Dominion University in 1991 and received his Certified Public Accountant Certificate in September 2000 from the state of Virginia. Matt has more than 15 years of financial experience, 12 of which came in a healthcare and human service setting. Matt has held financial positions in private, public, and non-profit organizations. Most recently and prior to joining the UMFS team, Matt was the Vice President of Finance, Hospital Operations, for a large behavioral healthcare company.
Erik K. Laursen, Ph.D
Vice President, Learning and Program Development
Erik k. Laursen, Ph.D., is Vice President of Learning and Program Development and is actively involved in UMFS’ outcomes management and training and learning opportunities. He has served in a variety of positions at UMFS and Charterhouse School since 1986. Erik draws on more than 30 years’ experience in youth work, education, and treatment and has trained professionals in the U.S., Denmark and Germany. He serves on the Editorial Board of Reclaiming Children and Youth: The Journal of Strength-based Interventions and is a consulting editor for Families in Society: The Journal of Contemporary Social Services. He has authored more than a dozen publications on the strengths perspective in youth work
Marcy Johnson
Vice President, Programs
Marcy Johnson, who joined UMFS in December 2007, brings more than 10 years of senior management experience with a large nonprofit human service organization in Michigan. Her extensive and diversified experience in the human services field includes residential, clinical, foster care, community-based, family reunification, child care and senior services. She received her bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and her master's in social work from Wayne State University. She has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Michigan since 1998 and in all a child and family advocate for over 15 years.
Sherry Napolitan
Vice President, Human Resources Sherry Napolitan, SPHR, came to UMFS with 23 years of experience in human resources in such diverse fields as health care, manufacturing, financial services, and consulting. She received her degree from Middle Tennessee State University and has been certified in human resources since 1989.
Gary Duncan
Vice President, Vice President, Development
Gary Duncan joined UMFS in March 2011. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and has over 26 years of experience raising funds for nonprofit programs with specialization in major and planned gift giving. As the founder of two residential and educational programs for youth, he has extensive expertise in working with children and youth from challenging environments. Gary has provided fund development leadership in various programs including the National Park Foundation, ChildFund International, iBex Technologies, the Alliance for Children and Families, and Community Attention Homes.

Larry Powell
Director, Community Relations
Larry has over 30 years of service with UMFS. He received a bachelor's degree in social work and a master’s degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University. Larry oversees all marketing, public relations and brand management activities of the organization and is a strong advocate for excellence in the area of customer service, quality programming and growing the UMFS brand.
Douglas Glick
Director, Child & Family Healing Center
Douglas Glick has been with UMFS since 2004 and has served as a Therapist, Lead Therapist and Associate Director prior to becoming the Director of the Child & Family Healing Center in July 2008. He received his master’s degree in social work from the Smith College School for Social Work in 2001. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider. He received his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and had a previous career as a Senior Program Officer for a national HIV/AIDS organization.
Jacquelyn Cowan
Director, Project LIFE
joined the UMFS staff in 2009 as Director of Project LIFE. Her experience includes program development and management, community outreach and collaboration, and planning local and regional initiatives for private and public agencies in the Richmond area. She has also been a volunteer youth mentoring trainer and small group leader. She is a graduate of Creighton University and received her master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Kristina Kallini
Program Director, Leland House
Kristina Kallini joined Leland House in 2006 as a therapeutic counselor and was promoted to the position of lead therapist before becoming program director in 2010. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with intensive experience working with adolescents who present with significant psychiatric symptoms of mood disorders, anxiety disorders, co-occurring diagnosis, self-harming behaviors, and who have experienced various types of trauma. She received her associate’s degree in psychology, magna cum laude, from Northern Virginia Community College; her bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology, magna cum laude, from George Mason University, and her master’s degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Courtney Mills
Program Director, Fredericksburg Regional Center
Courtney Mills has 18 years of experience in residential services, including 13 years at UMFS. Her experience includes direct care work with youth, therapeutic recreation, training at local, state, and national levels, program development and administration. Courtney has a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation and a master's degree in administration.
Adalay Wilson
Program Director,Tidewater Regional Center
Adalay Wilson has been employed by UMFS since 1989. She acquired her master’s degree in social work from Norfolk State University and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in 1992. Her experience has been in the child welfare field, -- focusing on attachment issues, treatment needs of youth in out-of-home placements, and adoptive family preservation.
Deborah Burton
Program Director, South Central Regional Center
Deborah Burton was formerly employed for more than seven years in the UMFS Tidewater office and the Richmond Regional Center's office. She started her social work career with the Tidewater Office of UMFS in a grant position. After obtaining her master's degree in social work in 2000, she was promoted to an Adoption Supervisor's position in the Richmond Regional Center. Deborah has enjoyed working in the child welfare field for approximately 15 years as an Adoption/ Foster Care Social Worker. She was hired as the Program Director of the South Central Regional Center in March 2004.
Nancy Toscano
Central Region Community-Based
Services Director
Nancy Toscano received her bachelor’s degree in social work from Siena College and her master’s degree in social work from New York University. She is board-certified in applied behavior analysis and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is a graduate of VA-LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) and is currently working on a Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration at VCU. She has 12 years experience working with at-risk children and families in a variety of roles and settings. Nancy has worked with children with high-functioning autism and Asperger Syndrome in special education settings and has worked with this population in both England and Malaysia. She is currently an adjunct faculty member in the School of Social Work at VCU.
Brendan Folmar
Principal, Charterhouse School
Brendan Folmar has 18 years of experience in intensive treatment and private educational programs. Brendan received his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from California University of Pennsylvania and his master's degree from Virginia State University in education administration and supervision. Brendan is also endorsed in the special education areas of emotional disturbance, learning disabilities and mental retardation. Brendan oversees both Charterhouse Day School and Charterhouse School Residential Programs. His passion is developing teams and programs to serve troubled youth.
Paul Kolhoff
Director, Information Technology
Paul Kolhoff received his bachelor’s degree in American literature from Oberlin College and a master's degree in education from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has been with UMFS since 1987. He taught in Charterhouse School, and then headed the school for two years before undertaking the formation of the IT Department in 1997. In addition to ongoing training in networking, Windows servers, and server-based computing, his three children keep him current on technological issues.
Olivia Faries
Program Director, Northern Virginia
Olivia Faries has extensive experience in adoption, treatment foster care, residential, outpatient and a multitude of other community-based services. She has worked in both the private and public sectors and was most recently at Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services in Maryland as the Director of Children’s Services where she provided oversight to a national program that coordinated, supervised and advocated for services for refugee and immigrant children. She is a licensed clinical social worker obtaining her master’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Eleanor Locklin Brown
Director, Organizational Improvement
Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, she has extensive experience in research, training, and organizational development. She earned her PhD in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill along with graduate degrees in Social Work and Public Health, and holds a professional certificate in Adult Education from Georgetown University. Dr. Brown was part of United Way of America’s early work in total quality management, and more recently served on evaluation teams for Family to Family of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, and the Title IV-E Waiver Demonstration Project in North Carolina. As Director she oversees the organization’s quality improvement and utilization management responsibilities, and participates in the agency’s research, strategic planning, and program development efforts.
