UMFS Unwavering Champion Oasia Banks

September 20, 2019

At UMFS, we are unwavering champions for high-risk children and families, collaborating with communities to help them reach their full potential. Each month, we name an employee as Unwavering Champion of the Month for going above and beyond in upholding our agency’s mission and values.

We’re pleased to announce our Unwavering Champion for September, Oasia Banks. As a Social Worker in our Farmville office, Oasia works with birth families, foster families, and local Department of Social Services to assist youth in meeting their permanency goals. Oasia helped two children return home to their birth families in the past two months.

“Oasia relentlessly pursues solutions,” said Brenna Major, UMFS Resource Parent Recruiter. “She looks for the best possible outcome and works hard with others to achieve it.”

Deborah Burton, Regional Director South and West Region, snaps a photo with Oasia and Ralph.

Community Based Services Supervisor Ralph Branch III agreed. Not only does Oasia strive for excellent outcomes, Ralph said she’s always looking for way to improve efficiencies. “Oasia is willing and able to provide feedback to improve policy and processes within the region,” he said. “And she understands the importance of what a team means in the lives of each other and the people we serve.”

Ralph said Oasia is a source of inspiration and a model for confidence and resolution. “No matter how hard a situation is, she will find the positives.”

Added Brenna: “Oasia is a hardworking, sweet, motivated and encouraging coworker. She is quick to ask about others and celebrate their wins, and she listens so well to her clients and coworkers. She brings a steady peace and cheerful attitude to the office and relentlessly pursues solutions with her team.”
