All- ages event hopes to bring awareness to childhood mental illness
RICHMOND, VA – UMFS and the Virginia chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will host the first annual Midtown RVA Fall Festival at UMFS’ Richmond campus at 3900 West Broad on Friday, September 23 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. The festival will take place on the large soccer field along UMFS’ Broad Street frontage.
The all-ages, family style event will feature live music, food trucks, games, and an outdoor movie with popcorn once the sun goes down.
“We’re excited to invite our neighbors in Scott’s Addition, Midtown and other communities in Richmond onto our campus to tell them more about who we are and how we empower high-risk kids and families across Virginia,” says Paul Evans, a member of UMFS’ community engagement team. “Co-hosting the event with NAMI Virginia also draws attention to the fact that as our kids go back to school, we should remember that 1 in 5 of them faces a mental health challenge, and the impact of that ripples out into our communities,” Evans says.
Crunch Fitness, King of Pops, Ironclad Coffee Roasters, and LulaRoe will be vendors at the event. Additional food trucks will be present, pending arrangements. Vendors interested in joining the event should contact Paul Evans, firstname.lastname@example.org.
