The Amazing Raise of 2014

For the first time, UMFS took part in The Amazing Raise, a 36-hour online giving challenge sponsored by Give Richmond that has raised more than $3.3 million for local nonprofits in the past 3 years.

For two days, UMFS staff, volunteers, donors and other unwavering champions for children and families did everything they could to drive support of UMFS — in hopes of winning the top prize. Several events took place before the giving challenge to help increase awareness of the organizations. A “Go Viral” video contest had nonprofits compete for the most views of a YouTube video they had uploaded. UMFS’ video Sunny Days received more than 1,800 views—the most out of any other organization involved—which generated $1,500. A program called “Selfies for Good” had individuals take “selfies” holding signs saying they support UMFS. And finally, a special reception took place as a way to drive donations for the official Amazing Raise event.
In total, The Amazing Raise was more than amazing: it generated $4,500 for UMFS, attracted future volunteers and fostered a better understanding of what UMFS does.
