Foster Care Rockingham County, VA

Here at UMFS, it is our goal to empower every child to realize their potential with our comprehensive array of programs. We strive to help at-risk children in Virginia overcome their circumstances and successfully contribute to society. Our hope is to create a world where opportunity and generosity are passed down from generation to generation. After all, we are not just here to help children, but families and communities as well.
Foster Care & Adoption Services
We provide a variety of treatment foster care and adoption services to Rockingham County children, families, and the surrounding community. We also provide the following services:
Treatment Foster Care
As opposed to simply “Foster Care” children in treatment foster care have experienced multiple moves or have emotional trauma. This is where UMFS shines in our ability to pair a child with the right family and parents. In addition, we offer parents 24/7 on-call support, local support groups, and individual strategies for each child in foster care.
Adoption Services
UMFS offers a helping hand in the entire adoption process. We ensure that children are placed in families with the utmost care and support. During the adoption process, we strive to create healthy attachments between parents and children. We do this by offering support services like parenting classes, workshops, support groups, and adoption counseling.
Residential Treatment
The residential treatment program is available for children and young adults who are facing serious behavioral or emotional issues. The Child and Family healing center along with the Charterhouse School provide innovative treatment for children ages 11-18. The programs focus on building their strengths regardless of past experience.
Intensive Care Coordination
Our intensive care program is highly individualized. This program supports children and teens at risk of being in and out of home placement. A single integrated Plan of Care is written by UMFS and implemented with monthly meetings. Regular check-ins are scheduled to help families feel comfortable and children to feel empowered.
Family Support Partners
UMFS is proud to be a provider of Family Support Partners. The program aims to assist families struggling with children who have mental or emotional challenges. Family support partners provide emotional support, advocacy, and education to families. The goal is to provide more access to services and allow families to express both their voice and choice.
Specialized Education
Specialized education is a service UMFS offers to children with intellectual differences who struggle in a standard school setting. These children can receive a comprehensive education through our onsite Charterhouse Schools.
