Foster Care & Adoption Services
We provide a variety of treatment foster care and adoption services to Louisa County children, families, and the surrounding community. We also provide the following services:
Treatment Foster CareAs opposed to simply “Foster Care” children in treatment foster care have experienced multiple moves or have emotional trauma. This is where UMFS shines in our ability to pair a child with the right family and parents. Adoption ServicesUMFS offers a helping hand in the entire adoption process. We ensure that children are placed in families with the utmost care and support. During the adoption process, we strive to create healthy attachments between parents and children. We do this by offering support services like parenting classes, workshops, support groups, and adoption counseling. Learn More About Adoption Services

Residential TreatmentThe residential treatment program is available for children and young adults who are facing serious behavioral or emotional issues. The Child and Family healing center along with the Charterhouse School provide innovative treatment for children ages 11-18. The programs focus on building their strengths regardless of past experience. |
Intensive Care CoordinationOur intensive care program is highly individualized. This program supports children and teens at risk of being in and out of home placement. A single integrated Plan of Care is written by UMFS and implemented with monthly meetings. Regular check-ins are scheduled to help families feel comfortable and children to feel empowered. |

Specialized EducationSpecialized education is a service UMFS offers to children with intellectual differences who struggle in a standard school setting. These children can receive a comprehensive education through our onsite Charterhouse Schools. Learn More About Specialized Education

The Richmond Campus is UMFS’ main base for foster care, residential treatment, adoption, private day school for specialized education and community-based services. This location serves the following areas: Richmond City, Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Goochland, Petersburg, Powhatan, Amelia, Charles City, Louisa, Dinwiddie, Prince George, New Kent, and Caroline. Our Charterhouse School is onsite which serves both day students from the greater Richmond area and students who live at the Child & Family Healing Center.
*Treatment Foster Care staff provide 24/7 on-call coverage outside of normal business hours.
