UMFS and the United Methodist Church Relationship
UMFS is a 501(c)(3) or not-for-profit human services organization. We are
a legally separate entity from The Virginia Annual Conference of The
United Methodist Church. The Board of Directors of UMFS has overall
operational responsibility for the corporation.
UMFS has a strong historic connection to the United Methodist Church. "Faith-based" or
"faith-related" are two phrases that are used to express this
relationship. Our mission is "Touch a life. Create a future." We have adopted a whole person concept, which focuses on
the intellectual, physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual
dimensions of each person we serve.
UMFS serves persons in need of our services regardless of their race, religion, color, sex, age, disability, national origin, veteran/military status, sexual orientation, ancestry, marital status, and retaliation. The large majority of service
recipients are not affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Our
network of services is open to all cultures, races, and religions.
Schedule a Tour
The UMFS main campus is located on 33 acres in Richmond, Virginia. Several cottages provide housing for youth in the UMFS Treatment Center. The following buildings are also located on the Richmond campus: the Charterhouse School, which provides school-based services for ages 11-18; the Richmond Regional Center, which provides treatment foster care, adoption and FamilyCARE services; and the Guardian Place apartments, which provide low-to-moderate income housing for ages 55+. UMFS encourages groups and individuals to make a personal visit to the campus to see firsthand how we assist more than 5,500 individuals each year. Tours of the campus can be completed within one hour. To arrange a campus tour, contact Bethanie Constant, Development Manager, 804-254-9674.
